FAQs about Industrial Printers

Like many decisions within your business, deciding to purchase an industrial printer is a large investment and requires time and research. Understanding the factors to consider prior to making this purchase can make all the difference in saving your company time and money.

Below are some frequently asked questions that we receive regarding our industrial printers. If you don’t see your question below, you can submit your question on line.

What factors should I consider when deciding which industrial printer to purchase?
The initial cost of the printer, though important, is just one factor to take into account when purchasing a new printer. Other factors that drive up costs over time are expensive maintenance contracts, service calls, locked-in consumables, spare parts, complex maintenance, training and waste disposal.

Is there one factor that is the most important out of everything else?
Certainly the answer to this question is dependent on your specific industry. However, in the majority of instances, the single biggest factor to consider is up-time or reliability. In almost all cases, products cannot ship without the proper coding. The customer product is significantly more valuable than the ink jet printer, so even a small amount of downtime can quickly eliminate any savings in the initial purchase price of the printer.

How do I calculate cost per print?
Cost per print is not only a function of the cost of consumables. Higher resolution printing with smaller drop size reduces the quantity of ink used.  Independent Ink printers allow for optimization of fonts and resolution. Over time the savings will be significant.

How much does it cost to run an industrial printer?
Operating costs over time add up. Lost production is the most significant cost on top of locked consumable costs, service calls, maintenance contracts and spare parts. At Independent Ink we believe that printer reliability, fair consumable pricing, remote access and solvent recovery are the keys to minimizing operating costs over time.

My industry has very specific printing requirement. Does Independent Ink make a product that can satisfy rigorous industry demands?
In every one of our printing products, we consider print quality, print speed and character size. We have experience working with over ten different industries, and our products offer a wide range of print sizes, speeds and resolution to satisfy almost any coding or marking requirement.
